Podcast Series, Written and Hosted by ABC News’ Steve Osunsami, Debuts on Tuesday, April 6
On Tuesday, April 6 ABC Audio will debut the first episode of its new podcast, “Soul of a Nation: Tulsa’s Buried Truth,”written and hosted by ABC News Senior National Correspondent Steve Osunsami. One of the most brutal and rarely discussed racially motivated attacks in American history occurred in 1921 when a violent white mob descended on a prosperous Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma, known as Black Wall Street. In less than 24 hours they destroyed and terrorized the neighborhood, killing as many as 300 Black Americans. The collective memory of the massacre was buried by a culture of silence and many victims’ bodies were never found. But now one century later, the possibility of mass graves buried beneath Tulsa has led to a renewed search for answers. Featuring archival audio accounts from witnesses and interviews with historians, “Tulsa’s Buried Truth” brings listeners through the painful history and into the modern-day quest for closure and healing.
“Soul of a Nation: Tulsa’s Buried Truth” also features “The View” Co-host Sunny Hostin and is available for free on major listening platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, TuneIn and the ABC News app, with new episodes posting Tuesdays.
The first podcast episode posts the same day as the finale of the historic primetime newsmagazine “Soul of a Nation,” which includes reporting by Osunsami on the massacre. “Soul of a Nation” airs Tuesday, April 6 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET) on ABC. Episodes can also be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu.
The podcast is produced by the award-winning ABC News Investigative Unit and ABC Audio. Cindy Galli is chief of investigative projects, and Liz Alesse and Eric Johnson are executive producers for ABC Audio.
